NEWS UPDATE 13 November 2020.

Hi all

Please forgive the radio silence, like everyone I’ve been adjusting and working around the joys of 2020, it’s been going pretty well thankfully.

We released a new Hague and White single a few weeks back, just digitally for the moment but hoping at some point to oversee some physical releases. Here is the new single video https://youtu.be/JTviMzJUuLo

We also got involved with the great Yamaha to launch a play along competition which is running for a bit longer. https://youtu.be/gWXs6uDhc30

The you tube channel is doing really well, thank you for the support, the next few months will see. via Real Movement Music, digital re-releases of the Players and Talbot White albums. Polydor are re-releasing Freedom Samba on the 28th Nov and Playing for Real and A Summer to Remember will be re released by Acid Jazz in 2021.

I’m also playing drums on the new White Star Build Company single Tangled featuring Richard Ecclestone and Roger Manning for Jellyfish, I played on four tracks on the new Stone Foundation album.
https://open.spotify.com/album/3uPUjV7vLUlEkLn5aBCZrG?si=MwdXoi3zRzSLZ2JAZfTyUQ and recently the new Style Council documentary featured on Sky Arts.

I’m also featured in the new film about Matt Deighton http://www.motherbrownfilms.com/matt-deighton-movie/  and Matt and I are putting out a few tunes, the compilation album by the Style Council has also done really well thanks to you guys. https://open.spotify.com/album/3guNVYq106L3ucLqn9IW7J?si=v8xag4xuS_mIHShPP_8idQ

Despite the circumstances a very productive time, Hague and White will be releasing a new single in January and have written the music for a new drama series being filmed in 2021, hopefully the New Year will see some semblance of normality return, until then stay in touch and stay safe.

NEWS UPDATE 21 Sept 2019.

Hi all

So sorry I’ve been a bit quiet on here, but it’s genuinely been really busy. I’ve really been working hard, especially in the studio. I'm really chuffed with the fruits of my labour, from the urban home-grown hip hop infused sounds of Argh Kid to Hague and White's latest contribution and to the new Monks Road compilations. It's been busy and productive and along with Chris and Joel, we’ve contributed to a TV show that’s coming out in November called Cold Call and it's really good and something I’m really excited to be doing more of.

It’s a strange time for me, I’m more and more enjoying the creative process, at both my place in London and at Tesla studios, but boy have I seen a shift in reaction. I’m not sure what it is, but simply playing on great new music clearly is a total uphill battle commercially, especially from my age and peer group who apart from the valiant few seem firmly stuck in the past. It's very disconcerting, but being the positive chap I am, I accept.

Meanwhile, as well as three singles with Argh Kid including the explosive R10T I’ve also recorded 4 songs with the Stone Foundation for release next year. We have another Hague and White album in the bag, I’m also recording a new series of EPs with Matt Deighton called Heritage Act, which is very different.

Teaching is going great and Russ Tarley and I'm coming to the point where my educational book is being finished, can’t wait for that. Please continue to check out the new music it means a lot.

NEWS UPDATE 06 July 2019.

Hi all

The year is simply flying now, I can’t believe once again the summer is upon us. It’s been an amazingly productive few months with the studio in London and my work at Tesla in Sheffield really starting to motor, with my compatriot Ian Wait engineering we’ve got the drums sounding sweet and as well as recording for other artists we have done a Hollywood movie and worked on a new TV drama.

We’ve pretty much got a new Hague and White album in the can and as mentioned we’ve also written the theme tune to a new TV drama which also features some Family Silver.

I’m working hard with Chris at Real Movement Music on securing digital releases for the two Talbot/White albums, the two Players albums, A Summer to Remember by the Jazz Renegades and a few other little surprises.

Teaching is going phenomenally well with both Hextable and Trinity proving to be both rewarding and fun. I have the 20th Freddie Gee coming up and then a short break before visits to Devon and Belfast teaching and then looking to do some studio experience days at Tesla in late September early October, details posted soon.

So, loads going on, keep an eye out for all the reissues then a track by H and W on the new Monks Road comp out 2nd August, musically really great times.

NEWS UPDATE 15 Apr 2019.

Hi
all

It's been a while since a proper update but I am pleased to say that's because I have been really busy. Amazing to be able to say that at my age!! anyway, things are going great. I am not sure if everyone that reads this is keeping up with the music that's been coming out recently, but hear are a few links for you to check

and last but not least the debut Hague and White album this I'm especially proud of,

https://open.spotify.com/artist/7jIvWza6OM9cRqb7V6bkvu

We are getting asked if we are gigging live, the answer at the moment is no but that may change, if we feel that we can put on shows at the level we want to. In the meantime teaching, recording and filming are going great at Tesla Studios in Sheffield and also the school in Hextable, anyone wanting private lessons drop me a line by clicking TALKBACK above.

Trinity Laban is going great, as have the rudiments classes we have dine since January in Hextable. The last in this bunch will be Sunday 28th April. Ay the moment studio and education seem to take up most of my time, with Hague and White, we are currently 12 songs in to a new album and have also got involved with writing the theme tune to a big drama series later this year.

Speaking of drama, it was the most amazing honour to win an RTS award for the Sky Arts series the Art of Drumming, truly humbling. I have moved the rudiments classes out of London and had a fantastic session with Matty Roberts in North Wales and then went down to Mossley in my role as ambassador for the fantastic future leaders organisation which resulted in a lovely jam with percussion legend Lea Mullen. I got to see and hang out with the amazing Steve Smith in Manchester on his recent clinic tour, that was awesome, anyway probably more news on new recordings soon so please keep the interest coming.

NEWS UPDATE 21 Dec 2018.

Great year over, work wise. Hague and White release Eleventh Hour - 11th January 2019 - (click links below to listen to a taster on Spotify and you can also pre-order), Doubtless Dauntless by Matt Deighton, Frank by Argh Kid, The Art of Drumming, release of the Monks Road social album, two tracks on that including one with a drum solo!! - loved it 2019.

I'm in the studio with Hague and White early Jan working on Monks Road social 2. At the end of Jan I'm writing with Matt for something incredibly exciting later in the year.

It's full steam ahead at South East School of Contemporary music with Danny Rose and Rhythm magazine feature in January talking about all the music, trip to Belfast in Feb, practice pad classes last Sunday of each month at the school in Hextable, (drop me line by clicking TALKBACK on the menu above). Then it’s Freddie Gee 20th celebrations with an awesome line up for sure. I'm still available for one to ones, again click TALKBACK above and get in touch.

I’d like to thank Tina Clarke, George Frederick, Gavin Thomas, Martin Potts and Gary Mann for their fantastic support, I’d also like to thank Neil Sheasby and Neil Jones for letting sub a bit more to come next year hopefully, Richard Clarke and Monks Road for a beautiful vision and supporting new music so strongly,  salute to you all and thank you for all the continued support and interest in all I do. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful 2019, may we all try to be a little kinder and individually do our best to dissipate this cloud of intolerance and anger that is enveloping what I still believe is a great place.

See you in 2019.

NEWS
UPDATE 17 Oct 2018.

Well the leaves are falling once again yet the sun is still shining. I write this with the photocopier spitting out sheets for master classes at my good friend Andy's Dum Shop, Newcastle University and then to Milton Keynes for future beat finals, then down to Gloucester for a day at my friend Graham Twists fantastic school, then its back to London and straight up to Manchester. That's simply how things have been running recently and I am certainly not complaining!

The Art of Drumming has gone down sensationally and all I can say is a total heartfelt thanks for the amazing words of support and encouragement, it truly means the world. I'm hoping we can roll it out globally but these things are subjects to legal and copyright issues. I will keep you updated of further developments. Trinity is up and running once more with a fantastic contingent of new and eager young drummers, very high standards all around.

I do have a few places available for teaching at the South East School of Contemporary Music in Hextable from where I am teaching, its a great location and very productive.

There is new music on the way from Hague and White (Joel White) and I will post the link as soon as i have it. I'm featured on the upcoming release of Frank by Manchester's Argh Kid and also two tracks on the upcoming Monks Road Compilation www.Monksroad.com for more info.

Sadly the Family Silver is no more, geographically rehearsals and writing was always and issue and the Uks appetite for new music beyond a certain age is challenging, however, the Eleventh Hour feat. Chris and Joel is coming soon and I'm dead proud of my contribution.

I am making a short appearance at the London Drum Show and then recording, teaching and filming takes up the rest of the year and then hopefully some live shows with H and W Jan time, please stay in touch, always great to hear from you.

NEWS UPDATE 20 August 2018.

Hi all

Well, I guess the big news is I’ve got the broadcast date for the series I’ve been working on, it’s called the Art of Drumming and features interviews with no less than 38 amazing drummers including Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Chad Smith, Steve Smith, Thomas Lang, Billy Cobham and Ginger Baker to name but a few  It’s been an amazing experience and I’ve loved it. It’s out on the 14th September, well first of four is and then over the next four Fridays, it seems it’s the first series ever made for TV purely on drumming.

The FreddieGee camp was amazing this year and with next year being the 20th it’s going to be amazing. I’m still teaching in London and working on a selection of videos, anyone wanting to study drop me a line by clicking TALKBACK above.

I will be at the London Drum Show in November doing a few bits, come and say hello. Lastly I’m playing on a fantastic new record with Chris Hague and Joel White from Sheffield, keep an eye out for it September time.

Whitey x

NEWS UPDATE 4 June 2018.

I’ve been extremely busy recently and have to apologise for my lack of updates, first I would like to thank everybody that took the trouble to wish me happy birthday!!

I’m working hard on a number of projects and I'm happy to reveal that in September I see the release of what I believe is the first documentary to be made about the world and lives of the drummer! It features some fabulous players including Dave Weckl, Billy Cobham, Thomas Lang, Chad Smith amongst 38 amazing interviews, really exciting stuff.

My work and contribution towards the South East School of Contemporary Music is going from strength to strength and I’m booking tuition into the summer.

Freddie Gee has an amazing line up including Ian Matthews, Pete Cater, Craig Blundell and Jeremy Stacey, only a few places left !

I’ve a new record out soon with Sheffield musicians Chris Hague and Joel White called 11th hour, fantastic stuff, the Family Silver contributed two tracks to a Monks Roads compilation album too. See you over the summer.

NEWS UPDATE 22 Jan 2018.

Hello and welcome to the first update of 2018. Thank you to all of you that have responded so positively and apologies for the sad state of affairs regarding our cancelled live shows, it’s a bitter disappointment to have to cancel shows albeit not our choice but the information we received is that we’d be much better going down the nostalgia route as that’s what audiences expect from musicians of our age. What a sad state of affairs. Anyway the CD is available to buy and it’s pretty damn good.

Matt's solo album is out soon and I’m delighted to have contributed and I’m also in the studio recording with the lovely Stone Foundation Gang. Priority has been to get my studio set up sorted, I want far greater control over my remote recording plans and it’s all coming together really nicely. I’m going to start posting video as a taster for the British Online Drum School which is also closer to fruition. For anyone interested I'll be out in Germany subbing for Phil Ford on Stone Foundation's German dates at the end of March.

Always good to hear via talkback your thoughts and questions in the meantime see you all soon .

NEWS UPDATE 03 Dec 2017

Hi all

And so sorry for the lack of updates here, it’s been quite simply crazy the past few months. Bitter sweet times for The Family Silver, as our London and Whitstable gigs were so well received and attended and the promoters saw fit to cancel the other 4 shows, so disappointing, we did get our new songs onto iTunes and it will be released on CD on 18th Jan via Republic of Music.

Still teaching a lot and have some awesome students coming through the ranks. I’m working on the British Online Drum School project and should be ready early next year. Paris was amazing celebrating Yamaha’s 50th anniversary with some stunning drummers.

Anyone interested in lessons, I have some vacancies early next year, please click TALKBACK above and email me. Look out for Matt Deighton and Bill Faye solo albums and more news of “ Give the drummer some“ on Sky Arts.

NEWS UPDATE 24 April 2017.

Hi all

Well the year is racing by and 35 years after first joining the Labour Party we once again go to the polls with a grey haired, dead eyed Tory female in charge.
Nothing changes I guess? Anyway, this year has been busy, Family Silver shows, recording with Bill Fay, sessions with Chris Hague and Joel White in Sheffield, loving it and some great music to come.

I'm teaching like mad! Some truly great players are coming through the ranks and congratulations to Former student Becky Brass on the show she is in winning a BAFTA and Matt Arnold for performing on drum set at the ENO with Katherine Jenkins and Alfie Boe, as well as teaching for Trinity I'm also teaching for Goldsmiths and post grad mentoring for Leeds College of Music.

I meet some wonderful people on my journey and it was incredibly sad to say goodbye to former student Matthew Densfield, heartbreaking day. I'm hoping to be at the LDS and at the Remo event for TCT in Manchester 23rd Sept. I'm taking up the role of patron for the fantastic school of former student Graham Twist in Gloucester so looking forward to seeing some of you in October.

I did my first in conversation event and have dates in Glasgow , Manchester and Spaulding, I'm hoping these will go ahead but ticket sales for Manchester have been disappointing. Thing is I get so many requests to do things around the country but they all rely on support, not words, however I have tuition and master classes booked in Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle which have thankfully all sold out.

The Family Silver will be recording an EP in August and hopefully gigs in London, Glasgow , Birmingham, Leicester and Newcastle, I know I will get the inevitable why can't you play in Brighton, Southampton or my back garden but that's not how it works ..... for the 10 thousandth time.

Very blessed to be so busy and having so much rewarding success with teaching, if you are interested in private studies click TALKBACK above and drop me a line for details.

A few places at Freddie Gee so drop an enquiry above if you are interested.

See you soon

Hi all and a very happy new year. I think we were all glad to see the back of 2016. I am straight back into it, hitting the ground running, I have a clinic in Warwick and then off to Sheffield to do some recording. I am then off to the University of South Wales and then up to RAW studios for a welcome return to see my friend Rich Wilson. As well as all this lovely stuff I am also continuing to teach for Trinity Laban and Goldsmiths College too.

Thoughts will soon to turn to Freddie Gee for our 18th year, who can believe it? Had an amazing night with Chad and Damon is Stoke, such great players and thanks to the nearly 800 that turned up, brilliant.

I am taking private students in London so if you are interested drop me a line by clicking talkback above.

NEWS UPDATE 19 Sept 2016.

Hi all

I trust you had a wonderful summer? after an amazing Freddiegee camp we all decamped to Spain and a chance to rest what I concluded was possibly a quite badly injured finger. I bent the top part of my first finger on my left hand way back in May, the night before the Scottish drum fair and it was painful right up until I was able to properly rest and treat it, suppose its natural after over 40 years of drumming to get the odd pain and injury and I'm just glad that it seems to have calmed down.

As I say Freddie Gee was a vintage year, really enjoyed it and the clinics I did for Yamaha and our teacher days were fantastic too. September saw us back in rehearsal for our Family Silver show and for what turned out to be a great gig at Under The Bridge and to be honest I've stopped worrying about why it seems so hard to sell excellently played, well-crafted new songs when it seems people en masse want the easy option of old stuff served up in an anodyne cocktail of nostalgia and show biz blarney, not for me!! Then from the live stage to the studio to record for Matt Deighton’s solo album, we recorded at Monnow Valley in Wales and I was seriously impressed, great location , epic sound , old school , band (me, Ben, Trigg and Matt) cutting tunes live, fantastic , can’t wait for it to come out Meanwhile it came to my attention that the society record I played some drums on has just come out on Virgin , a beautiful new album of really cracking songs and production with Brendan Lynch at the helm … new music people.

I had a chat with Mike Dolbear for his upcoming pod cast alongside the wonderful Richard Jupp and I am now girding my loins for the new academic year at both Trinity and Goldsmiths. The diary is already coming alive for 2017 and I shall be playing some drums for Pete McLeod in Scotland and hopefully Manchester and London too in Feb 2017, going to be a good band with ex Lightning Seed Martyn Campbell on bass and Mr Steve Cradock on guitar, also stay tuned for something very cool in December, more on that as soon as all is confirmed , hope some of you got a chance to check out my interview with my mate Chad Smith in Rhythm Magazine? and please do so if your about come and say hello at the London drum show in November .

Love

NEWS UPDATE 15 June 2016.

Hi all

So sorry things have been quiet on the news front it’s just been so busy. I am concluding a run of work that started in late May and has been pretty much relentless since. In amongst my adventures I got to play drums for a Chinese video game with Phil Gould , Gavin Harrison, Jeremy Stacey , Gary Husband and the great Frank Ricotti too, what a glorious noise that was, it actually sounded amazing.

I then went off to film for the new BBC music ident which has been shown a lot over the spring/summer season, then off to Glasgow for the Glasgow drum show, was great to catch up with Darrin Mooney and meet Eddie Thrower and Kaz Lewis and it was straight into my first teachers seminar for Yamaha. The following week it was up to Northampton with Ian Palmer, Pete Cater and Kieth Carlock for the World’s Greatest Drummer concert and then back off to Manchester to do my second teachers seminar, since then Newcastle, Leeds, Romford, Cardiff, Guildford and Birmingham for both clinics and teacher seminars, it’s been a ball. I have had a great time travelling the country meeting up with fellow drummers and educators and the Yamaha recording customs are an absolutely beautiful set of drums.

Family Silver dates 8th, 9th and 10th September and then I go into the studio to record with Matt Deighton on a solo project. I have some private tuition spots coming up and there is interest in me doing a day in Manchester , you can register your interest by clicking Talkback on the menu above and dropping me a line.

Freddie Gee still has a few places and it’s going to be a sensational week , hope to see a few of you at the Family silver gigs.

NEWS UPDATE 29 March 2016.

Greetings drum fans and i trust you are all well?

Sorry I have been a bit quiet on here, it’s just been full on since January. First of all thank you to all that came to the debut gig of the Family Silver, it was a great night, lots of lessons learned re the music business and its ever evolving nature for me so we have to tread a careful path for future shows, of course we hope there will be many but it seems still to be a very difficult nut to crack without some kind of established label on your side , we can but try but thank you all for your support , incidentally the album sales have exceed expectation and I put that down simply to word of mouth.

On the site my first clinic tour for Yamaha is now in place (see press release below), I really cannot wait, it’s just one of my favourite things to do, just to go out and meet and hang with drummers. It’s all going brilliantly with Yamaha; the drums are an absolute dream.

The World’s Greatest Drummer Concert is looming on the horizon so will be dusting off their big band chops and then a summer Drum Academy for the 17th year!! Incredibly strong line-up this year, once again details for this are in the news section, always great to hear from you , I’m taking a few private lessons , for anyone interested click TALKBACK above and drop me a line.

NEWS UPDATE 14 Dec 2015.

Hi all

2015 is beginning wind down after a fantastic show at the Hideaway in Streatham with the great Mikey Sorbello, I started the year out with a lot of hope with Premier and finished it learning not to listen to my heart in business. Nothing had really changed in terms of management style and when you are prepared to let Keith Keough and his team go and consider that a strategic business decision I realised there was clearly no future there for me.

However, purely by chance at the World's Greatest Drummer concert I chanced upon the Yamaha hybrids and the rest shall we say is now recent history. I am delighted to be with a company that treats players with the respect we deserve and they make, in my opinion, completely beautiful instruments. Speaking of which the next concert is 29th May 2016 at the Derngate theatre in Northampton.

We recorded the Family Silver album in February, the recording was a delight, the process to get things out slightly more frustrating but a real eye opener in terms of how much the industry has changed. Massive heartfelt thanks to Chris and Liney Webster for being a guardian angles, we have our debut London show at the venue Under the Bridge on March 10th 2016, hope to see a few of you there?

Click Here for Under the Bridge tickets

I am also doing a show in Stoke on the 16th January 2016 if anyone is in that neck of the woods.

So with FreddieGee in July and not one but two tours for Yamaha, a trip to Japan is planned, its already looking like a busy year, thank you for all your amazing support.

Have a great Christmas.

NEWS UPDATE 14 Oct 2015.

Hello all

Welcome to a new look whiteydrums and a new era, some new features have gone up, as well as the link to my Spotify playlist. I have also added Whiteyradio on Souncloud, this is a collection that has been collated from my own collection of music that I have featured on over the years, it includes 3 Jazz Renegades albums plus the eponymous EP we did for Acid Jazz called Playing for Real, the two tracks that constituted the MEFF release Never Stop and a myriad of tunes from the Bombdroppers featuring Steve Sidelnyk and Bheki Mseleku, together with the albums by Talbot White, The Players and Trio Valore. This isn't being done for profit at all just I feel that in the ever decreasing world of music I would rather have people have access to it and hear it than it be forgotten so enjoy.

I am busy preparing for the release of the Family Silver album Electric Blend,
Click Here to pre order the album on iTunes.

I have in the not to distant future a show with the Graveltones Mikey Sorbello, this will be part of the London Drum Clinic events at the Hideaway in Streatham on the 10th December.

The big news if any of you that have seen the new layout of the site is that I am proud to announce that I am now a Yamaha endorsee, its the first endorsement with a drum company I have had in a while, my time with Premier came to an abrupt end and I have remained largely silent about this issue, all I will say is that I let my heart rule my head in being persuaded to give the company my time and I cant turn that clock back. I wish Keith, Al, Ian and Stu all the very best for what I believe will now become the UK's No 1 drum co the British Drum company.

So why Yamaha, at the Worlds Greatest Drummer event I was essentially a free agent and quite simply seeing what I wanted to play, I was totally knocked out with the sound of Ian Palmers hybrid kit and if it were not for Gavin Thomas not offering to help me load my car the connection would never have been made. I think these are beautiful drums, the build quality is immaculate the sound is fantastic and I am so impressed I have even changed my set up now incorporating four toms, the hardware is fantastic and it comes down to the simple reason I really LOVE the drums.

I met with the company and I love the ethos, the professionalism, the ability to support the needs I have as a drummer out in the world of music, it all just works for me. I can't leave the commitment that Yamaha have for education out of the equation and lots of dreams and plans that were in danger of sinking are now ready to go, here is a little video we made on the Thames in my home town of London.

So, quite a bit of change, my artist Facebook will be my main port of access to social network and I will retain a presence on Twitter and Instagram to and that all be enough the main Facebook page will wind down, why? it's to all consuming, its too invasive and I must stress there are some fantastic People on there but I simply have more productive things to do with my time. I hope to see a few of you there .

NEWS UPDATE 10 Sept 2015.

Hi all

Hope all my dear cyber friends are good and have had a great summer. The most significant thing here at Whitey towers has been the end of our pledge campaign which finished a stunning 160% above target, as some of you will now have the album Electric Blend by the Family Silver you can now enjoy the fruits of our labour, or at least I hope you will?

For those that didn't julep on the good shop Pledge then the official release is now November the 6th, its been an interesting experiment, its clear to me that a lot of people that I engage with are really on happy to engage with the past and that's fair enough, the interactive experience was very popular, studio visits etc, put it this way in my humble opinion a lot of people will basically think nothing of going into Starbucks and shelling out a tenner for a badly made coffee and a limp muffin, but paying for music …… Anyway, enough wonderful people got on board and once again I thank our main sponsors Chris and Caroline Webster and an honourable mention to Mark Ford too. The listening parties were a great success and a lovely surprise was to have Martin Freeman join Chris Dolan to DJ at our London bash, great night!

For anyone that caught me in this months Rhythm magazine you will by now know I am no longer with Premier, a very sad state of affairs and that's all I have to say on the matter. I salute Keith Keough and his team who are also now no longer with Premier and wish to say that the Modern Classic kit and snare drums are some of the best drums I have ever played and I am proud to be part of their short and brief history.

So new album out, a possible clinic in London 10th December, a trip to Absolute Music on the 2nd of October for a show with my old friend Austin Lane , its all go!!

Be prepared for an update on drums and stuff very soon, its all very exciting.

Hi All

Sorry for being quiet recently but things have been so busy, as many of you will know we have via Pledge funded an album by a new project called The Family Silver, it features myself, Damon Minchella and Matt Deighton, its been a brilliant experience and we have had great fun making it in Manchester at Blueprint studios.

Got quite a busy May coming up with Trio Valore shows at the start and end of the Month, one in Whitsatble at the Duke and then we will be taking some time out after the Mijas festival in Malaga.
Spain and Italy have been really good for the band, I just don't think it really connected in the UK.

NEWS
UPDATE 12 Dec 2014.

Well here we are 2015 just around the corner and 2014 rapidly fading to dust, I have to say as I face my 50th year on the planet things have never been clearer and priorities never more apparent. Another year of change in the music business,, the ever popular argument of free or barely paid for music still dominating the industry, Bono and his gang of tax dodgers putting their beautifully distressed $ 5000 dollar cowboy boots right into the mouth for every young artist trying to make a few bob from their talents , way to go fellas!!! Where has this devaluation of music left us, basically with a third hand copy of the band aid single but with not very good production. For those that argue that music should be free I say this, you’re wrong …… if you don't believe me try this, the next time the window cleaner comes round or you have a curry tell the person who has just provided the service you are going to like them on Face book rather than pay. Enjoy the kick in the groin.

Another interesting year musically in getting on La Rouxs great record and also the Trio Valore EP of which I am really proud. Pastures new next year, we are teaming up (me, Damon and Justin) with Matt Deighton for a Pledge music project;, the Family Silver, we have already demoed four songs and we like the vibe, exciting melodies, tight plain which is only t be expected and an element of danger, should be a good ride, please keep up with us on the eponymous FB yada yada .

This year I have become one of the members of the excellent Trinity Laban College Percussion dept. , an appointment I have both embraced and enjoyed immensely , as well as teaching for Goldsmiths College and private students that have come in from New Zealand , Scotland , and mainland Europe . The Scottish drum fayre was a blast with Robin Guy , Dave McKeague and Gabor (how many feet ) Dornyei .
Zildjian day was great from a performance point of view and for myself and Steve Sidelnyk it was both a challenge and a joy, Gavin Harrison was fantastic and it was great to see Andy Gangadeen , Mark Mondesir , Mark Richardson and Ash Soan too , Bob Henrit and Brian Bennett made my night , though the other guy that was on with us was an utter tosser, way to go fella!!

Freddie gee with my compadres, Craig Blundell and George Frederick was incredible, such a special event , and next year is our 15th year !! unbelievable , places are going fast so don't hang around.

And so to Premier, what a year, conceived in a Didsbury pub the Modern Classic drums built here in the UK have won both the MIA and Rhythm readers’ poll and gained 5 star reviews in aforementioned magazine , pretty much everyone we have built has been sold and 2015 sees us move to bigger premises , hopefully to sell a lot more drums , it’s been a total pleasure working with Keith Keough he is the best !!

A few thank yous and apologies for leaving anyone out.

Bob and Tina at Zildjian.
All at Remo especially Gary Mann
Dil and Paul at Porter and Davis
Joe Testa and Martin Potts from Vic Firth
Andy Anderson for being the don
Simon Parr at Gibson UK clothing and Mark Baxter and Darren Connett for the introduction.
Pete at Delicious Junction .
Ian Edmondson for doing such a great job online.
Keith , Chris , Duncan , Tim , Vikki , Karen and Colin at Premier
George and Craig the Freddie Gee posse
and thank you to you all for reading , supporting and staying with me on the journey

Peace

Hi all

Well the sun is still shining and things are good, I’m back in London for the foreseeable future and will haves room for some ‘one to one’ tuition if anyone is interested click TALKBACK above and get in touch.

I am taking up a teaching position at the esteemed Trinity Laban College in Greenwich; it’s a truly inspiring place to work within the grounds of the Old Naval College, a stunning place in a brilliant part of London.

I am also working on a new project with Steve Sidelnyk my old mate who is back from the states , will reveal details when i can . Unfortunately Trio Valore are a bit quiet at minute, Damon is well on his way to his doctorate but hopefully we will start writing for a new album this autumn.

Don't forget I’m at Solent University on the 9th October for a drum clinic and will be at Scottish drum fair on November 3rd , practicing really hard for this one .

The response to the Modern Classics has been simply superb with a five stars across the board review from Rhythm magazine , more shops are on board stocking them and some new innovations in the range being developed for NAMM.

NEWS UPDATE 22 Aug 2014.

Hi all

I hope everyone is doing great? September is almost upon us and I am baffled as where the year has gone, luckily its been extremely productive with some nice Trio shows namely Swansea Jazz festival and then the Freddie Gee Camp, to say they were a success would be an under statement, it was fantastic and every body seemed blown away. So, with that in mind here are the dates for next year and an offer to pre book as we do anticipate a massive response.

Proud to announce to dates for the 15th Anniversary Freddie Gee Summer drum academy 2015. The confirmed week is: July 27TH to 31st 2015. You can pre register a place at drumacademy@hotmail.co.uk, we anticipate a sell out for this special occasion so early booking advised.

Things are going from strength to strength educationally for me and I shall be taken up teaching duties at the world renowned Trinity Laban College in Greenwich.

We have had an amazing reaction to the Modern Classic range to with a 5 star across the board review in Rhythm Magazine this month, some really exciting plans afoot for NAMM show in America and beyond.

It's strange, I've never been busier but my role seems to have changed, it was great to play on La Rouxs record but opportunities to record professionally for decent fees are few and far between so I guess you got to go with the flow, anyway thankfully some great stuff keeping me busy and for that I am thankful.

Happy drumming

Hi all

Well I hope you are all having a great Summer? I'm getting ready for Freddie Gee at the minute and really can't wait, Craig Blundell, Pete Cater, Karl Brazil, Robin Guy, Paul Dinnage and a guest appearance by the Trio Valore, what could be better? Well the fact that it is sold out yet again suppose?

Really getting into my stride with my new role at Premier and will be announcing who will be on the first wave of our associate teacher programme, this is going to be a really exciting and innovative development so keep an eye out.

Nice to see Mr Wellers More Modern Classics in the charts, hoping for more chart action with my contribution to the fantastic new La Roux album, we are off to Italy in August for a very special concert with brass and the wonderful Marta Ren on Vocals in Terracina/San Felice, its just near Roma if anyone wants to come?

Looking ahead I shall be appearing at the DDrums Falkirk Annual Scottish Drum day in November taking the mighty Modern Classics North of the border for the first time, lots of innovation at Mawdesley on the Modern classic series so hope you like it, keep up the emails always great to hear from you all, take care!

NEWS UPDATE 27 May 2014.

Hi all

Big news here, I have as you may have noticed made a move back to Premier drums, I was asked to come back to work on a long term education programme covering not only conventional drummers but also working how we can share the world of drums with the wider community around the country. This is something that is very dear to my heart, ambitions and also Premiers. Now under new ownership left me under no illusion this was the right move for me, I am also working on some product development but more of that later this week!

In the meantime I would sincerely like to thank Martin Iotts and Duncan at Korg for being so understanding, they are great guys and Mapex is a fantastic project but my decision is career defining rather than a simple switch of brands.

A few things to look out for, the new Trio Valore EP is still available on iTunes and I still have quite a few tracks on the second instalment of Paul Wellers More modern Classics. I am also playing drums on the new La Roux song 'Let me down gently' which sounds great. There are a few Trio shows in June, June 6th in Croatia, then 21st at Fairfield Halls Croydon, then the Swansea Jazz festival on the 22nd, then we are back in Italy in August for a special night at the Exotique festival, also late July don't forget the Freddie Gee drum academy, you can send any enquiries to me by clicking TALKBACK above and I will ensure you get all details

NEWS UPDATE 20 Feb 2014.

Sorry for the lack of communication, few things going on like a 1200 mile drive to play in Edinburgh, Aberystwyth and Shoreham, which were all great gigs by the way so thank you.

We appreciate how some people may not be into instrumental music but the apathy to new stuff in this country is penetratingly boring! It really does seem like a tribute act fill the bill for a lot of music punters, anyway we soldier on. A new EP is finished which sounds great and we are very happy with it, details of release and pre order as soon as we have them.

We are limiting our UK shows this year but will be in Italy in March and then Spain in April.

Please click here for a link to the 5th of April Madrid show

We are playing a festival the night before in Ebro , details as soon as possible, then we are playing in Croatia early June and then we have a date at the Swansea International Jazz Festival on Sunday 22nd June www.sijf.co.uk  is the official website.

Freddie Gee is selling fast with a great line up so anyone wanting details please clcik TALKBACK on the menu above and that goes for for tuition either in London or at Raw studios in Halifax.

More updates soon

Cheers

NEWS UPDATE 20 Dec 2013.

Hi all

Once again another year rolls off into the distance, been an interesting one as it involved me celebrating 30 years in 'that there music business' and culminated in getting married!

Changes are coming thick and fast, x factor dominates because nothing is there to compete with it, and names like Sonos and Spotify have replaced Universal and Hitachi, its all changing really fast, the biggest elephant in the room for me is the inability for any young musician to not have a cat in hells chance of making any significant money from recorded music, the main sources within the next few years will be Youtube and Streaming sites and the rates they pay to artists are simply not enough to sustain a creative and thriving UK music industry. Always a few breaking the norm, bands like Bastille and The Vaccines, but in general its like opening a shop every morning full of beautiful handbags, clothes, apples, anything! and saying how do we make money and run a business without getting any significant revenue from what we create, its that simple people! and it needs to change. The UK music scene is basically having the oxygen to its very life blood very slowly strangled, not being negative just telling the truth.

So thank you to all that came to the Trio shows, we had a ball, four trips to Italy and more planned next year and some great and some not so great shows in the UK, its a nice idea to be a promoter, it sounds cool, buts its bloody hard work and unless you really know how to promote a band via local press, promo and radio then don't do it, Facebook and Twitter alone will not sell a gig.

It was great to work with Kristyna Myles this year, played on her version of Paris Match and on her new single and a track for her album. Sam Grays album came and went but fortunately we have recognised the situation and thankfully Sam has a great 2014 in store, inevitably accompanied by the something for nothing vampires coming out of the woodwork ……. again.

I have compiled all my non PW solo stuff on to one playlist and am looking in to release soon, nearly 7 hours of music from Jazz Renegades to Players and Talbot White and a few surprises, got some big plans for 2014, some real change a coming for me but in the meantime I will be teaching regularly at RAW studios in Halifax and have Trio dates in Edinburgh , Aberystwyth and Shoreham in January, always contactable via TALKBACK above too.

Saturday 01 Feb

Then back to Rome in March, hoping to confirm Madrid in April and some great events like Midwest in Brighton May bank holiday and of course 28th July till 1st august its the Freddie gee summer drum academy.

New trio Valore single will be March/April time, so, be happy be healthy and see you all in 2014.

NEWS UPDATE 04 January 2013.

Hi all

Happy new year to everyone and personally glad to get back to work , here is what's coming up.

Sunday Jan 6th first play of album track "Hand me a ticket" from Sam Gray’s new album, then hopefully radio play to follow in Jan, Sam is going back out on the road with dates right up until Feb 4th when his album "Too much of a good thing” is out.

It’s 30 years, this year, for me in the business and I'm quite chuffed with the fact that 30 years from that first release of "Long Hot Summer " I'm still able to be part of some new music with a great young artist that's still getting played on National radio and not living on the " do you remember ..... trip”.

Anyway, first showing of video is Monday 7th Jan, I co- wrote this song with Sam and Joe Killington , then hopefully things should just ramp up, we have deals now in the Netherlands , Germany , France, Italy and Spain. Hopefully too, we have been asked to do a special couple of shows where instead of doing all the donkey work I actually get to play, more details to follow.

I'm still teaching in both London and Stockport and anyone interested drop me a line by clicking TALKBACK above and dropping me a line.
Freddie Gee summer camp is already a 3rd sold out, we have something very special planned. Any way more updates to follow but for now it just goes to day have a happy and healthy 2013.
